About Mike Bensema

Based in New Milford, CT

I started on my photography path when I purchased my first SLR, an Olympus OM-10, when I was 12 years old by saving money earned from cutting neighbors' lawns. A lot of things have changed since then! After a long career traveling all over North America and Europe as an engineer in the process equipment industry, it was time to slow down and concentrate on my family.

My interest in photography over the years has continued to grow and expand to areas I never would have thought a few years ago. My son’s interest in sports gave me opportunities to photograph his teams, and I have thoroughly enjoyed photographing the talents of the Northwestern CT Icehawks and New Milford Green Wave hockey players. My event photography at my church, The First Congregational Church in the beautiful town of New Milford, has lead to offering portrait photography services for families and seniors as well as photography training classes to help novices through advanced users get the most from their photography hobby.

I have loved the outdoors since I was a child and am glad I can use my passion for photography as an excuse to get out and stay active. Living in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut provides ample opportunities to be out in nature and show people who do not have that opportunity what is out there. When I am not working with a paying client or volunteering, I am finding new landscapes to show the wonders of this world.
